Department Profile

The post-graduate department of sociology, Sardar Patel University was established in the year 1963 under the headship of eminent Indian Sociologist Dr. N A Thoothy. Later on it was developed by Dr. B V Shah, Dr. A S Patel, Dr. J D Thaker and Dr. M F Patel. Located in the Humanities Building of University, it is a full-fledged department with seven sanctioned faculty positions. Having three positions vacant, at present it has four faculty members comprising of three professors, 1 associate professor and one Assistance professor. Initially started with only two PG Students, at present it has 128 students comprised of 114 M.A., 06 M.Phil and 08 Ph.D students. The department has UGC financed Center for Indian Diaspora and State Govt. financed Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Chair as its constituent units.
