Message from the Desk of the Head

We are a Department of a University specifically created to fulfil the needs of the rural population. The karmayoga of visionaries like the Iron Man of India and the first Deputy Prime Minister of Independent India, the late Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel; our founder Vice-Chancellor, the late Shri Bhailalbhai Dyabhai Patel (Bhaikaka); the late co-founder of the township, Shri Bhikhabhai Kuberbhai Patel; the late Dr HM Patel, our successive Vice Chancellors and many other luminaries have given us a sense of purpose and direction. The present Vice Chancellor, Professor (Dr) BG Patel, has brought about changes that augur well for the University and the Department.

 

We are fortunate that Sardar Patel University combines in itself the best of both the traditions of learning in ancient India like Nalanda and Takshashila on the one hand and Oxford and Cambridge in modern times on the other which has been the result of the karmayoga of these visionaries and luminaries. We have remained steadfast in our commitment to the fulfilment of that glorious vision. We have had the privilege of hosting the XXXII All India Teachers’ Conference, 3 UGC Advanced Level Summer Institutes in English Language Teaching, 6 UGC-sponsored Refresher Courses in English, 22 State and National-Level Seminars, workshops on materials preparation, etc in 50⁺ years of our existence.

 

We do not believe in resting on our laurels but in being learner- and learning-centric. Any self-appraisal of our achievements ever since our establishment seems to us to reek of vanity. Therefore, we would rest content in our belief that trying to do good and doing good are in themselves the rewards of our karma. We do take legitimate pride in doing our very best to constantly set and achieve newer goals, and invite you to join us in working towards a better future.
