Master of Computer Applications (MCA) This is a Post-Graduate course in Computer Applications designed for graduates in any subject having some Mathematical background. In six semesters, the course covers fundamentals of computer science and extensively trains the students in making use of computers in a wide variety of fields, which include Systems Programming, Scientific Computing as well as Business Applications. It also gives the students an insight into the use of computers in automating business processes. The course aims at developing the analytical, logical and programming skills of the students. It covers the latest technology and prepares the students for an ever-changing environment. The goal of the course is to produce professionals who will initially fill positions like Systems Analyst, Application Programmer/Analyst, Information Systems specialist etc., but will advance in their career right to the top. Thus, communication skills, team work, manpower handling skills, systems analysis and design skills, presentation skills, organizational behavior etc. are emphasized during the course. The last semester of the course entirely consists of a project and its presentation. This gives the students valuable practical experience and exposure to the Industry.
Master of Science (Bioinformatics) [MSc (BI)] This is a four-semester Post-Graduate course in Bioinformatics. The course focuses on understanding of various biological problems, concentrating on the computational complexities, and thus intends to train the people in usage, development and applications of IT based tools and technologies for providing solutions to the specific needs. Building Late Pujya Shri Gordhanbhai Hathibhai Patel had always showered his blessings to the department’s growth by generously donating money. Pujya kaka had donated Rs. 51 Lacs for the construction of the new building of the Department of Computer Science and Technology. The Department building has most modern facilities and resources in the spacious and peaceful campus. It is well connected to the University offices, other post graduate departments and amenities like hostel, health center, central library, playground, canteen etc. The earlier building was located in the University main campus.
The Department is located in Nana Bazaar, near Jain Derasar. Click here for a map.
Industry, Institutional and International Links For the project work in sixth semester and placement of students, support of industry is very essential. The Department has good links with nearby industries like ELECON, GCMMF, NDDB, L&T, Cadila, TCS, NCDFI, ORG, CMC, PCS and IPCL for case studies during MCA/MSc(BI)/PGDCA study. The Department regularly arranges campus interviews for placement of students. Industry also provides inputs for regular updation of course contents of MCA, MSc (Bioinformatics) & PGDCA.
The Department has a very active academic association with the Center of International Co-operation for Computerization, Tokyo (Japan) and the Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship, Tokyo (Japan). The Department has a system to keep in touch with ex-students, many of whom are in USA and regularly communicate on latest trends in technology.
The department has also provided consultancy services to the various institutes.
