Profile: The Department, established in 1958, with a single faculty member, Dr. R D Patel has now grown into a full-fledged academic research centre. It is rated highly at state and national level for its academic and research activities. The Department is situated in the centre of the University campus and has good infra-structure and is equipped with all the necessary facilities. Currently it has a strength of 21 Faculty members comprising of 10 Professors 07 Readers 04 Lecturers All the faculty members are actively engaged in research. Courses offered: The Department offers postgraduate and research degrees viz. Master of Science (MSc) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) The department also offers one year full time post-BSc diploma course in Analytical Chemistry and post-graduate diplome in Polymer Science. Masters and Postgraduate Diploma Degrees: Master of Science (MSc) is offered as a 2 year (4 semester) full-time programme. The first year (2 semesters) consist of core chemistry study with specialization in second year (2 semesters). The specialization courses offere are: Analytical Chemistry Industrial Polymer Chemistry Inorganic Chemistry Organic Chemistry Physical Chemistry An average of 80 students are entered in MSc Programme, based on merit and entrance test every academic year (May-June). While around 23 students are entered in this course on "Self-finance basis" An average of 20 students are entered for Post BSc Diploma in Analytical Chemistry and 10 students in post-graduate diploma in polymer science. Also 10 students can be admitted on a self-finance basis in post-graduate diploma in polymer science. Research Degree (PhD): The thrust area of research in the department is polymer science however, research is actively pursued in organic, inorganic and physical chemistry. Every academic year (July-August) an average of 10-15 students are admitted for their doctoral research and the average strength of research scholars round the year is 50.
