About the Department of Business Studies:

The Postgraduate Department of Business Studies (Commerce) was established in the year 1964 to cater the growing needs of postgraduates especially in the academics in the Gandhian State of Gujarat to carter rapidly growing human needs largely because of on going industrialization that took place at Vital Udyognagar, Anand. Besides, big organizations like Amul, NDDB and such other big industrial units too were setup in and around Anand. Other big corporates were setup also at Baroda, Surat and Ahmedabad nearby to Anand. The first Professor & Head was Prof. Manubhai M. Shah, a well-known academician and administrator. During the 43 years of its existence, the department has grown from strength to strength. There are 13 sanctioned posts of faculty members in the department of which 3 are vacant. Out of which, 4 Professors, 3 Readers and 3 Lecturers are presently working in the department. Out of the ten faculty members working in the department, except one all are males. It offers super – specialization in M.Com, Ph.D. and M.Phil program in Commerce. It has well-trained faculty who are actively engaged in research work. The faculty also has a vast amount of research publication to their credit. Our faculties are regularly deputed to update the knowledge and skills by participating in State, National and Conferences and Workshops. All faculty members are actively engaged in research and extension along with basic teaching.

 

Recently UGC has supported our Department for Departmental Research Support (DSR) under Special Assistance Program for five year from 1-4-2007 to 31-3-2012. The thrust area for research and teaching is ‘Corporate Disclosure and Investors’ Protection in India in a changing scenario’.
