The
University is located at the unique educational township at Vallabh Vidyanagar which
provides a community atmosphere and pleasant learning environment.
The township combines all the comforts
& amenities of urban life styles with the typical peace, serenity and pollution-free
environment of rural world.
The University offers a comprehensive range
of courses covering virtually all major disciplines and fields of study from the graduate
to the doctoral level. It also offers a wide range of research and development facilities.
The University offers 40 graduate and post
graduate courses, 20 diploma courses and 8 certificate courses in mainstream faculty
disciplines in Arts, Science, Business Studies, Education, Home Science, Law, Medicine,
Pharmacy, Engineering, Technology and Homoeopathy. Thrust Areas include, Polymer
Chemistry, Materials Science, Bio-Science, Management, Electronics, Computer Application,
etc.
Limited seats are also available for
Foreign Students, Non Resident Indians and Sponsored Candidates in selected disciplines.
The University greatly values
socio-cultural diversity and views it as a source of enrichment. It is currently
implementing a major campus diversity initiative project with generous financial support
from the Ford Foundation, New York, through its representative in India at New Delhi.
The University intends to launch a major
programme to enhance Industry-University interaction and linkages with UNISCO-UNIDO
support.
The University continually encourages
students and teachers to enhance their learning and competence by Organising Seminars,
Training Programmes, Refresher Courses, Workshops, Conferences and Visits/Sponsorship to
other leading institutions both within and outside the country.
Faculty members are encouraged to undertake
research activities, projects and programmes sponsored by national and international
agencies and foundations.
The University lays a great
emphasis on dissemination of knowledge, research findings, creative and innovative
pursuits of its faculty members and students. It publishes a monthly newsletter
"Sheel Shrutum", ; two research journals entitled prajana (in Social
Sciences and Basic Sciences, respectively); Arth Vikas - A journal on
Economics; Journal of Education and Psychology; Journal of Engineering and Technology ,
and a journal on Indian & English Literature entitled Mimamsa
The University Operates a
publications scheme with the help of the University Grants Commission, New Delhi, whereby
faculty members and researchers are provided opportunities to publish their monographs,
research reports and Ph.D. thesis, etc.
The University periodically
organises youth camps, students exchange programmes and National Integration Camps under
the National Service Scheme (NSS) of the Government of India.
Trekking expeditions, camp and auxiliary
military training are offered to students under the National Cadet Corps (NCC) scheme of
the Government of India.
The University provides limited hostel
accommodation to its students and operates four hostels exclusively for male students in
addition to one womens hostel.
To encourage bright and talented students,
the University has instituted many prizes, Gold Medals, Merit Certificates and citations.
A "talent bank" of students is also in the process of being formed.
The University has instituted research
awards for teachers in postgraduate departments & colleges with the help of Shri Hari
Om Ashram Prerit Bhaikaka Inter-University Smarak Kosha in various disciplines of Basic
Sciences & Social Sciences.
The University also houses a Museum at its
Campus with a full-time Curator and Assistant Curator. The Museum has been able to collect
rare collections of artifacts from various sources for display and study.
