About New Course
Centre for Training and Research in Language and Communication
Humanities and Social Sciences Building, Sardar Patel University
Vallabh Vidyanagar – 388 120 Gujarat (India)
With the ushering in of liberalization and globalisation, rapid changes are taking place all over the world. The world is gradually transforming itself into ‘a global village’. Moreover, with English being given increasing importance as a global language, the need for adequate training in language and communication has increased manifold and that provides the context in which the Centre has been established.
The Centre
The Centre has been established with effect from 21 June 2004. To begin with, it will be under the Department of English, Sardar Patel University, Vallabh Vidyanagar, but the University intends to develop it gradually into an autonomous centre.
Aim
Venue
The Centre will presently be accommodated in the building housing the Departments under the Humanities and Social Sciences. There are adequate classes available here for the conduct of classes in the evening.
Advanced Certificate Courses
1. Communication Skills in English
2. Communication Skills in Hindi
3. Communication Skills in Gujarati
Course Details
There will be three components on each of these certificate courses: two Courses and a Project Work of 100 marks each. Details can be had by writing/sending an e-mail to the Honorary Director, Centre for Training and Research in Language and Communication, Humanities and Social Sciences Building, Sardar Patel University, Vallabh Vidyanagar – 388 120, Gujarat (India). E-mail: ctrlc@rediffmail.com.
These courses are not available in the formal system of education but have become a necessity in view of the fact that people are found lacking in the ability to communicate in the language in which they might choose to interact with others. One of the complaints against the formal education system, therefore, is that it churns out graduates who are employed, maybe, even unemployable. These are complementary vocational courses that students in this University can do alongside their BA/BSc/BCom etc. These skills cannot be taught as a part of the demanding syllabi in specialisations available in the formal system of education but have become a necessity.
